Migrating SNA Applications to IP Reduces Costs of Financial Transactions
Starting at just $79,000, PASSPORT Host Datastream Class Library (HDCL) can offer organizations huge savings by migrating SNA applications to IP using TN3270 and TN5250, eliminating the need for old SNA communication hardware and software such as the IBM Communications Server and Microsoft SNA Host Integration Server (HIS).
PASSPORT HDCL is a non-invasive solution that allows customers to programmatically access host-based applications at the datastream layer. The host applications will traditionally be using 3270 (IBM Mainframe or zSeries) or 5250 (IBM AS/400 or iSeries) protocols and using LU types 0, 1, 2 or 3.
PASSPORT HDCL simply exposes the information contained in these protocols to the customer’s application prior to the construction of the screen and print buffers. This should not be compared to “screen scraping” API’s such as HLLAPI or Object API that can be found with most terminal emulator vendors.
Typical customer applications requiring this interface are found in the banking and financial worlds, especially where the migration from SNA to IP networks has not yet been fully achieved. PASSPORT HDCL was used to deliver legacy integration with Argo banking software (www.argodata.com) at US Bank and Wachovia, allowing them to eliminate thousands of Microsoft SNA and HIS Servers, realizing considerable savings in the process.
Other applications that could use HDCL are advanced print management, a typical customer application can access the data destined for IBM LU1 and LU3 printers and re-produce it in any format required.
PASSPORT HDCL uses the LUA-RUI interface and can be used to migrate existing LUA-RUI applications from older and expensive SNA hardware and software solutions. Using the LUA RUI interface permits more control in customer applications by providing methods to handle exception requests, minimize LAN traffic through program design and recover from session failures.
